Research Associate (Living on the Edge) in History

University of Manchester

United Kingdom

We are seeking to appoint a full-time Research Associate on a fixed-term contract for eight months. This post represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to work on a British Academy funded project entitled “Living on the Edge: experiences and responses to Europe’s changing borderlands”.

You will undertake archival and bibliographic research relating to Portuguese experiences of encounter and exchange – especially in West Africa. This involves using archival materials collated by the PI, and conducting archival work in Lisbon and Seville to source and transcribe primary materials. You will have the opportunity to organize and participate in academic and policy orientated events, contribute to peer-reviewed academic outputs, and assist in public engagement activities.

You must hold a PhD in early modern history (ideally with a focus on fifteenth and/or sixteenth century Portugal) or equivalent qualification, and have experience of conducting relevant archival research.

As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status.  All appointments are made on merit.
