Research Associate position in Sociology / Related Fields

University of Luxembourg

The University of Luxembourg invites applications for the following vacancy in its Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education

The post-doc researcher (m/f) will be a member of the Institute for Research on Socio-Economic Inequality (IRSEI, head: Prof. Louis Chauvel) at the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education at the University of Luxembourg.

More specifically, the successful candidate will contribute to the research stream of Population Studies, Socioeconomics and Aging, closely linked to the institute’s main research programme on the Dynamics of Stratification and Inequalities in the Context of Welfare Regime Transformations. Further research streams of the institute involve Social PolicyHealth Inequalities, and Inequalities in Aging, further migration, labour market, and other topics in the context of inequalities across age, period, and cohort. Collaborations with relevant research actors in Luxembourg, in particular the Luxembourg Income Study, exist.

The successful candidate will analyse large databases of relevant demographic, economic, and health information on micro- and macro-level from different parts of the world, applying sophisticated advanced statistical methodology. The research is intended to deepen the knowledge on socio-economic inequalities and their dynamics, and analyse the evolution of inequalities in long-term demographic projections across different domains (income, wealth, health, fertility, mortality etc.). This is done by developing new cross-sectional and longitudinal analytic tools in order to understand better the interactions between social structures and institutional transformations.
