The MRC Biostatistics Unit is one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions. Our focus is to deliver new analytical and computational strategies for the challenging tasks facing biomedicine and public health.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and independent researcher to make a crucial contribution to the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, working on the assessment of the severity of CoVID-19, including the probability that infection leads to death, hospitalisation and intensive care admission.

The post is funded by the MRC/UKRI/NIHR COVID-19 Rapid Response Call, in partnership with Public Health England (PHE) and the University of Warwick, in collaboration with Prof. Lipsitch at Harvard University and Prof. Cowling at Hong Kong University.

The post-holder will work in Prof. Daniela De Angelis' group, supervised by Dr Anne Presanis, applying and developing survival-type analysis and Bayesian evidence synthesis approaches to multiple national (from NHS England and PHE) and international data sources on CoVID19 severity. Results will be shared with key stakeholders (e.g. PHE) and relevant government advisory groups.

This work represents a unique opportunity to have a direct impact on the current pandemic.

We welcome applications from established researchers as well as newly qualified PhDs. In both cases experience in survival analysis, multi-state modelling and Bayesian statistics is crucial for the position. The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.

The Unit is situated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, one of the world's most vibrant centres of biomedical research, which includes the University of Cambridge's Clinical School, two major hospitals, the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, and the world headquarters of Astra Zeneca.
