The Kirby Institute is conducting a study (ReINVEST) through the Justice Health Research Program on patients with impulsive behaviours. To facilitate the study, we are looking for a Nurse who will contribute in carrying out the clinical trials on men with impulsive behaviours. The study will look at the implication of medications to reduce the violent or aggressive behaviours in male offenders. This involves recruiting men from local courts and community correction centres.

As a Nurse your responsibility will be to enrol and maintain the participants for the study in designated NSW local government areas. You will plan and develop study specific processes, documentation and resources. This will involve conducting patient assessment and monitoring including comprehensive psychiatric assessment, physical examination and completing all study tools. You will provide leadership within your designated area in NSW to ensure that the study is conducted according to ICH-GCP requirements set out by NHMRC as well as TGA guidelines on Good Clinical Practice. The position will involve direct contact with male offenders on a daily basis, as well as interaction with Legal Aid, Magistrates, Police, Private Legal Practitioners, Community Corrections Staff and Prosecutors.

This position will cover outer Western Sydney, including Mount Druitt and surrounds.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant Qualifications as a Registered Nurse, Registered Psychologist, or Clinical Psychologist with a current licence to practice from the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with minimum five years post graduate experience in mental health
  • Extensive knowledge in the application of Good Clinical Research Practice Guidelines and a demonstrated ability to implement and adhere to
  • An understanding of psychometric tools used to assess impulsivity and personality disorders and knowledge of Good Clinical Research Practice Guidelines (ICH-GCP).
  • Capacity to undertake physical examinations, collect pathology samples or willingness to learn (nursing)
  • Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework.
  • Clinical experience with violent offenders or aggressive clients with proven clinical assessment skills, with a track record of comprehensive mental state examinations
