Summary of Duties
The Drug Enforcement and Policy Center seeks a Research Director with a passion for research in the area of drug policy, especially at its intersection with the criminal justice system. The Drug Enforcement and Policy Center focuses on promoting and supporting interdisciplinary, evidence-based research, scholarship, education, community outreach, and public engagement on the myriad issues and societal impacts surrounding the reform of criminal and civil laws prohibiting or regulating the use and distribution of traditionally illicit drugs. The center examines the impact of modern drug laws, policies, and enforcement on personal freedoms and human well-being, giving particularized and sustained attention to analyzing the rapid evolution of marijuana laws and the impacts of state-level reform efforts.

The Research Director will work with the Center’s director, staff, and affiliated faculty to create and execute an innovative, evidence-driven research agenda to ensure that the Center is viewed as a scholarly leader and a valuable resource by policymakers and other academics. Working closely with local, state, and national stakeholders in the drug enforcement and policy space as well as the Center Director, the Research Director will be in charge of acquiring and analyzing data, conducting qualitative and quantitative research to inform drug enforcement policy and practice, leading a team of staff and graduate student researchers, overseeing and directing Center’s research, publicizing the Center’s research and programming by actively seeking speaking engagements at conferences and other subject matter appropriate venues, and seeking research funding opportunities and leading grant writing efforts. Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and should be willing to engage in external outreach; occasional travel may be required.

Required Qualifications
PhD in criminology, sociology, computer science, public affairs or policy, public health, statistics, economics or similar field is required; a minimum of 10 years of work experience is required; candidate must have experience in management of research teams, and development and presentation of research results. Must also have experience in grant writing and reporting.

Desired Qualifications
JD is not required, but a plus; significant experience in drug enforcement and policy research, or research in related social policy areas, is strongly preferred; demonstrated ability to partner with academic, government, and criminal justice stakeholders to develop, write, and implement drug enforcement and policy research proposals and reports; skilled in the application and implementation of quantitative and qualitative techniques and methods, and empirical study design; advanced statistical analysis; and development and analysis of secondary data such as survey and administrative data; proficiency in preparing, designing, and integrating large and varied datasets is necessary.

Target Salary $80,000.00 - $95,000.00 Annually
