The Opportunity

An opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and motivated postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases at Monash University. The research fellow will join a small team working on the molecular mechanisms of Acute Erythroid Leukaemia, with the ultimate aim of identifying novel therapeutic strategies for this aggressive but poorly understood subtype of Leukaemia.

The candidate's responsibilities will include the conduct of high-quality research under limited supervision, design and conduct of advanced experimental protocols, involvement in professional activities and attendance at research meetings, production of conference and seminar papers and publication of research data, as well as supervision of students where applicable.

The candidate will have a doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline or a closely related field, or an honours degree in the relevant discipline (haematology, oncology, molecular biology or genetics) or have equivalent qualifications or research experience; or an honours degree or higher qualifications in the relevant discipline and/or progress towards a doctorate in the relevant discipline

The successful candidate will have skills in molecular, genetic and cell-based biological techniques including DNA cloning, gene expression RNA and protein assays, mammalian cell culture and flow-based cytometric analyses. A proficiency in mouse handling and the ability to perform techniques such as IV/IP injection, oral gavage and blood sampling would be highly beneficial, but not essential. Prior experience working with mouse models of leukaemia or other blood disorders would also be beneficial.

This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. Some positions at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
