Job summary

The Leonardo Centre, a new research centre characterised by an emphasis on cross-disciplinary collaboration among scholars in the social, natural, engineering, and data sciences within Imperial College and at the international level, is looking to recruit a full-time Research Fellow. 

We are looking to expand the Centre activities that focus on understanding what business organizations do or should do to contribute to sustainable development. In particular, for this role we are looking for a candidate with expertise in computational social science and with a proven track record of research and publications at the interface between finance, business and corporate social responsibility. It is essential that the candidate is interested in developing a research agenda that focuses on the social impact of business operations and that the candidate have experience with the social dimension of sustainability.         

This post is fixed for two years and may eventually be renewable for an additional two years.  Imperial College policy requires a six-month probation period.

Duties and responsibilities

You will take on the responsibility to be one of the researchers within the Leonardo Centre and to develop and lead a research agenda that focuses on understanding what corporations do to align their policies and practises to realise the People and Prosperity Sustainable Development Goals.

You will lead the model analysis addressing the abovementioned issues, including data collection, model development, coding, model calibration, numerical analysis, data visualisation, data curation and statistical analysis. You will be responsible for these outcomes and may be asked to direct team members to assist them, where required. 

You will also:

  • Publish research papers in peer-reviewed journals
  • Obtain research grants from national and international funding bodies, and obtain funding from industry where appropriate
  • Supervise postdoctoral researchers, postgraduate students and undergraduate research projects

Essential requirements

You must have a PhD in Management, Finance, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field.

You also must:

  • Be proficient in one or more programming languages, ideally Python or R
  • Have experience working with firm-level datasets
  • Have a strong statistics background
  • Have experience with the social dimension of sustainability
