Position Overview

Prof. Alain Chong and Prof. Ying Weng are seeking an outstanding Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the newly established Postdoctoral Research Station in Business Administration at UNNC. The Fellow will contribute to the development of the university’s research agenda and advance a project on neuro-oncology using explainable AI.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Develop Research: Formulate objectives, develop proposals for individual and collaborative projects, applying established and emerging methodologies.

  • Conduct and Analyze Research: Collect, manage, and rigorously analyze complex datasets; interpret results; evaluate literature; generate original insights aligned with project goals.

  • Disseminate Findings: Prepare manuscripts for leading journals, present research at conferences, and increase the visibility and impact of the team.

  • Secure Funding: Identify opportunities and contribute to competitive grant applications to national and international bodies.

  • Build Networks and Collaborations: Engage with internal and external partners (academic, clinical, industry) to establish collaborations that strengthen research outcomes.


Candidate Requirements

  • Qualifications: PhD awarded within 3 years in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related disciplines.

  • Programming & Data Skills: Proficiency in Python (NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow); experience with R, MATLAB, or Julia is advantageous.

  • Machine Learning Expertise: Supervised/unsupervised learning, ensemble methods, deep learning (CNNs, RNNs); experience with explainable AI (SHAP, LIME) and radiomics preferred.

  • Quantitative Analysis: Ability to handle multimodal datasets, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and validation techniques.

  • Research & Publication: Experience in critical literature review, rigorous study design, and publication in high-impact journals.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Excellent English communication skills; Chinese is a plus. Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Practical Experience: Prior research in healthcare, medical imaging, AI applications, or digital innovation is an asset.


Project Overview

The project aims to advance neuro-oncology by building a multimodal brain tumor database integrating imaging, patient records, and digital pathology. Using explainable AI, the system enables non-invasive determination of tumor pathology (WHO grading) from radiomic features in routine imaging, reducing reliance on invasive biopsies and supporting personalized treatment recommendations. The Fellow is expected to submit a research proposal building on this project summary.

  • Prof. Ying Weng: Course Director for Computer Science with AI; expertise in signal processing, neuro-oncology imaging, and AI.


Remuneration and Benefits

  • Fixed-term contract for 2 years with UNNC.

  • Minimum annual salary: RMB 269,906, with competitive benefits.

  • Postdoctoral fellows may apply for RMB 50,000 research funding after starting.
