About This Opportunity 

The primary role of the position is to undertake data analysis to assess and understand sustainability of the products/systems. The position is with the Centre for Crop Science of Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI). As a research-focused academic at Level A, you will be supported and guided by more senior research academic staff with the expectation of an increasing degree of autonomy over time and will work as a collaborative team, likely involving different centres of QAAFI and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

 

Key responsibilities will include: 

 

Research

  • Undertake data analysis for sustainability assessment of agri-food systems.

  • Meta-analysis using different machine learning algorithms

  • Assessing the influence of different variables in farming systems and food processing using advanced multivariate statistical techniques

  • Undertake research activities related to related topics of sustainability assessment, including capturing stakeholders' feedback and perceptions using different methods, viz. fuzzy cognitive mapping

  • Document research findings in technical reports and scholarly papers in high-quality refereed international journals.

  • Support the development of research proposals in aligned topics for external funding.

  •  Perform research-related administrative functions as required.

  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

 

Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).

  • Demonstrates personal effectiveness in supervision and the management of researcher development.

  • Effective lead and develop supervisee performance and conduct by providing feedback, coaching, and professional development.

  • As appropriate, manage research support staff effectively throughout the employee lifecycle in accordance with University policy and procedures.

  • Working to promptly resolve conflict and grievances when they arise in accordance with University policy and procedures.

 

Citizenship and Service

  • Demonstrate citizenship behaviours that align to the UQ values.

  • Shows leadership of self through collaboration and active participation in priority activities for the unit

  • Provide support to other academic positions and unit operations as needed during other team members absences.

  • Contribute to internal service roles and administrative processes as required, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.

  • Collaborate in service activities external to the immediate organisation unit.

  • Begin to develop external links and partnerships by cultivating relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 2 years, at Academic level A. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $86,346.14 - $99,426.59, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $86,941.16 - $116,329.11 annually.

About You  

  • PhD or equivalent experience in agronomy, environmental science, or any other agriculture-related fields Application with near to completion of PhD (thesis submission by 2023) can also be considered.

  • Strong expertise in data analytics and familiarity with R, or any other data analytics software.

  • Proven skills in machine learning algorithms, multivariate statistical techniques and spatial analysis

  • Familiarity with analysing both quantitative as well as qualitative data

  • Track record of high-quality, peer-reviewed journal publications related to sustainability

  • Ability and willingness to work effectively with the staff and students.

  • Demonstrated high-level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

  • An emerging profile in research in the discipline area.

  • Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities
