The Opportunity

The Monash University Metabolism, Ageing and Genomics unit is seeking to appoint a Genomic Data Scientist to perform large scale genomic, phenotypic, and biostatistical data analysis for the ASPirin in Reducing Events in the Elderly (ASPREE) clinical trial and subsequent observational extension study (ASPREE-XT).

To date, the ASPREE-XT project has collected genomic data on over 15,000 participants, accompanied by extensive longitudinal phenotype, clinical and lifestyle information, to the highest standards of a clinical trial. It has established an analysis program to integrate genomics with medical phenotyping, lifestyle, mood, cognition, neuroimaging and physical function data, as well as proteomic, lipidomic and other biomarker data currently being generated on the cohort, in combination with the UK Biobank (500,000 individuals with extensive genotype + phenotype information available).

The Unit is seeking a talented analytically-minded scientist to help ASPREE-XT to participate fully in the international genomics consortia working groups, meta-analyses and research publications.

Key activities of the appointee will include:

  • Participating in a leadership capacity in consortia working groups, meta-analyses and research publications
  • Facilitate integration of ASPREE genomic data into consortia, taking account of frequently extensive requirements to meet formatting, quality-assurance, ethical, storage and data transfer requirements
  • Ensuring ASPREE phenotypic/clinical data is harmonized optimally for each individual consortium
  • Leading analysis and publication of ASPREE genomic studies, especially those involving consortia analyses
  • Providing bioinformatics and data analysis expertise across a range of genomics projects in the School

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A doctoral qualification in the relevant discipline area or equivalent qualifications or research experience
  • Demonstrated statistical analysis and manuscript and research proposal preparation
  • Data management and analysis training and experience with large data sets
  • Statistical genetics experience and/or translational or clinical genomics experience
  • Proficiency in coding; experience working with High Performance Computing (HPC) and cloud platforms
  • Demonstrated research skills with the ability to supervise, mentor and support the development of staff and postgraduate students
  • Motivation and passion for achieving excellent research outcomes for the Faculty

If you believe you can fulfil these requirements, you are strongly encouraged to apply.

This role is a full-time or part-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to "How to apply for Monash Jobs".

We encourage applications from First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disabilities, neurodiverse people, and people of all genders, sexualities and age groups.
