We’re a university full of energetic and enthusiastic minds, driven to challenge what’s expected, expand what we know, and learn from other inspiring, empowering thinkers.

The Opportunity

The Centre for Geometric Biology is developing and testing a new theory for how and why organisms grow. With a state-of-the-art research facility and in collaboration with the Centre for Geometric Biology, the School of Biological Science is looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher with a passion for evolutionary biology.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative team investigating ways in which size affects the structure and function of marine phytoplankton. Working within the Centre for Geometric Biology ( the role specialises in microalgal biology and will have a strong empirical background.

In this dynamic role, you will support technical staff and postgraduate students in the building of a research program in the field of evolutionary biology. As a member of the research program team, you will make a significant contribution to the programs by developing research-related material for teaching purposes, conducting experiments on advanced technical equipment, producing conferences and seminar papers and publications.

What you bring to the role?

As a preferred candidate for this role ideally you will have worked in a similar field with a strong focus in empirical ecology or evolutionary biology using microalgae as a model species. You will be excited at the prospect of using our evolved lines of large and small phytoplankton to test ecological and evolutionary theory.

If you are enthusiastic at the prospect of taking on an important and ground-breaking challenge that does demonstrable social good, we strongly encourage you to apply!
