Duties and responsibilities
Research, development and creative activities, at least 70% of working time.
  1. Planning and performing laboratory and field-scale experiments related to biodegradation of organic pollutants (incl. oil products) in marine and terrestrial environment, analyzing of obtained data and writing of scientific publications. 
  2. Consulting other members of the research group on topics related to molecular methods of environmental microbiology.
  3. Participation in writing funding proposals and applying for funding.
  4. Development of skills necessary for RDC activities, and professional development.

Teaching and activities related to the administration and development of teaching, up to 20% of working time.

  1. Supervising students of the first and second level of higher education.
  2. Professional development to enhance teaching and supervising skills.

Participation in the governance and institutional development of the university and social and public activities, up to 10% of working time

  1. Participation in the work of the university’s decision-making bodies is recommended.
  2. Popularisation of the specialization and participation in professional societies.

Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.
Required experience
  1. An internationally renowned scientist who has published (incl. also as a first author) papers in the field of environmental microbiology.
  2. Development and application of molecular microbiological methods for the analysis of different types of samples from engineered systems and environment (incl. soil and water). Experience in DNA extraction, purification and quantification from samples; experience in performing and optimizing quantitative polymerase chain reaction on a professional level and mathematical analysis of obtained qPCR data. Knowledge of DNA sequence databases used in microbiology and design of PCR/qPCR primers. Experience with the preparation of DNA libraries for high-throughput sequencing analysis.
  3. In addition to microbiological skills, a strong background in environmental biotechnology is required.
  4. Teaching experience (incl. e-learning) on all levels of higher education is required, including experience in the supervision of bachelor and master level students. 
Required language skills
Top level knowledge of Estonian language, good level of English (writing, speaking, reading).

01.02.2020, temporary contract to 31.12.2023
