Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow in the Health Economics of Genomics

About the Opportunity  

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow (Level B) / Senior Research Fellow (Level C) within the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health to investigate the health economics of genomics. The position is funded from a research grant held by a senior academic and offers the successful applicant a wonderful opportunity to develop their own collaborative research program and become a research leader in this exciting and rapidly progressing field. Within the School, this position will sit in the Wiser Healthcare research collaboration, a collaboration spanning the University of Sydney, Bond University, Monash University, the University of Wollongong, and international colleagues. In this role, you will have opportunities to pursue your own research interests whilst working alongside academics with expertise in the fields of economic evaluation, health technology assessment, discrete choice experiments, economic modelling, and ethics, as well as expertise in policy and decision making.  The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to applications for competitive research funding, and to contribute more broadly to wider research programmes within the School of Public Health.


About You

  • PhD in health economics, public health, or related discipline
  • demonstrated track record in the economics of genomics, or screening and diagnostic test evaluation
  • demonstrated understanding and experience in health technology assessment and policy communication
  • outstanding oral and written communication skills, particularly a demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical economic analyses to audiences outside your own discipline
  • demonstrated track record of peer reviewed publications in health economics, public health or a related area
  • understanding of health system financing and policy implementation
  • experience and skills in conducting cost effectiveness analysis
  • ability to work in a multidisciplinary academic environment, and independently as required, and preparedness to contribute more broadly to teaching and research programmes within the school
  • demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a higher education context

Our preferred candidate would also ideally demonstrate:

  • Success in being awarded external funding support for research – either through bodies such as NHMRC or through government or industry contracts.
  • Experience with postgraduate research student supervision
