Applications are invited for a Research Nurse/Allied Health Professional to work under the supervision of Sarah Vollam. The postholder will work on research projects undertaken by the Critical Care Research Group, primarily these will be funded through the NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre. The aim of the post is to provide nursing support to clinical research studies in a hospital and/or community setting.

Duties will include ethics and regulatory submissions, and associated document control; patient screening, recruitment, and consent; data collection, including patient notes tracking within the Trust; data entry; and training ward staff in the use of equipment where this is appropriate.

The post is supported by both other medical and nursing staff and technical (engineering and computing) expertise. Over the course of the appointment the postholder will play a key liaison role between the research team and the clinical teams as well as assessing the feasibility of the research project. For example, assessing the reliability and usability of devices that may be in use, and, alongside the engineering team, help to resolve practical and technical difficulties. Recruited patients will need data collected regularly from their medical notes and technology (if being used) will need to be checked that it is working correctly. The successful candidate will receive full training in the collection of data and technological equipment. Individual patient studies may run continuously for several days. Flexibility to work some early starts, late finishes, cover weekends, to visit patients in their own homes and to be available for both clinical and technical trouble-shooting advice, will be required. The successful candidate will need to be registered qualified Nurse or Allied Health Professional, have evidence of continuous professional/academic development; take responsibility for their own workload, clinical decisions relevant to patient care, and day-to-day management of the research-related tasks.

This is a full-time vacancy, but part-time work (with a minimum of 2 days/week) will be also considered. The post will be based in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
