The Department of Chemistry has over 200 employees and is one of the largest departments at Stockholm University. Research spans all areas of chemistry, including:
Analytical, Physical, Materials, Inorganic, Structural, and Organic Chemistry
Sustainable chemistry and advanced analytical methods
Both theoretical and experimental research
The department has state-of-the-art research infrastructure and staff support. It hosts:
Bachelor's degree programme in Chemistry
Master's programmes in Analytical Chemistry, Sustainable Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry
PhD programmes in Analytical, Physical, Materials, Inorganic, and Organic Chemistry
The position is associated with research in lab-on-a-chip systems, integrating sensing technologies for:
Clinical diagnostics
Environmental sensing
Continuous flow synthesis
You will:
Oversee operations, development, and innovation in the microfabrication prototyping laboratory
Support interdisciplinary collaborations between engineering, natural sciences, and clinical research teams
Advance research and technology translation in lab-on-chip systems, biosensors, and micro/nanotechnology
Lead design, fabrication, and integration of microfluidic and lab-on-a-chip devices
Manage and maintain lab infrastructure and develop SOPs for fabrication (glass, polymers, paper, metals)
Fabrication techniques include: photolithography, soft lithography, etching, laser cutting, CNC milling, hot embossing, bonding, 3D printing
Integrate electrochemical and optical biosensors, including sensor surface modification and electrode patterning
Supervise and train students and researchers
Support internal and external R&D collaborations in microfluidics, sensing, and assay integration
Initiate R&D programs, prepare competitive funding proposals
Lead technology transfer activities with industry partners and startups
Develop functional prototypes for clinical, environmental, and industrial applications
Disseminate results through publications, conferences, and public engagement
Key skills: Project management, collaboration, and leadership in cross-disciplinary innovation
Swedish doctoral degree or equivalent
Proven experience in leading microfluidic fabrication laboratories
Extensive expertise in design, fabrication, and application of lab-on-a-chip devices
Skills in simulation, design, and fabrication of glass, PDMS, polymer, and paper-based microfluidic devices
Proficiency with photolithography, soft lithography, wet/dry etching, laser cutting, CNC drilling, and 3D printing
Experience integrating electrochemical and optical microanalytical systems
Strong publication record and ability to secure research funding
Evidence of leadership and supervision of students
Desirable: research credentials in analytical chemistry and biosensing, technology transfer, SME or industrial R&D experience
