Researcher in Chemistry towards manufacturing of electrodes for Li-ion batteries

Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 44.000 students, 7.100 employees and a turnover of SEK 7 billion.

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 230 employees and has a turnover just over 220 million SEK. At the department's seven programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering programs and master's programs. More information is available on our website.

Work duties & project description: The main duties involved in the researcher position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The present research project is part of a larger European collaboration project and concerns the development of processes for manufacturing and processing of anode composites based on graphite and silicon for use in Li-ion batteries. This includes characterization of polymer binders, slurry formulations, tailoring of slurryrheology, electrode coating, and characterization of the prepared electrodes. A large part of the work will be done in collaboration with other project partners in Sweden and elsewhere in Europe.

Detailed description of the work duties:

  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students
  • Actively seeking external research funding
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above

Requirements: The applicant should have obtained a PhD or an international equivalent degree within the field of chemistry, materials science or other for the position relevant field.

Applicants should have a good knowledge and practical experience of working with slurry rheology, electrode coatings and electrochemical battery testing. Applicants should also have very good oral and written proficiency in English.

The assessment of applications is based primarily on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research based on scientific skill. Greater importance is attached to the quality of individual scientific work, than to the amount of publications.

Additional requirements: Experience from working with silicon-based anodes, large-scale electrode coating, and polymer science will be highly rated.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
