Electronics Design Engineer

We are looking for

You will support scientific staff, postdoctoral researchers and students in their research by means of advice, concrete design proposals, firmware and driver implementations for existing hardware, and new hardware designs. You will also, and in particular, be concerned with the integration of functionalities of different pieces of electronics. You will work in a team of engineers with complementary competences in analogue and digital electronics design, and in the production of (complex) electronics boards. We are part of the Nikhef consortium, which means that we have close connections to engineers and technicians based in Amsterdam (also for our engineering projects). In addition, the international character of our collaborations implies that our projects are usually performed by international teams from various institutes around the world.

We ask

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of high-speed electronics and real-time signal processing.
  • Experience in FPGA programming through VERILOG and/or VHDL.
  • Experience with Vivado/Vitis is preferred.
  • Experience with interfacing with embedded software is preferred.

We are

The position will be based at the High Energy Physics Department of the Institute for Mathematics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics (IMAPP). The department participates in world-leading particle physics and astroparticle physics experiments. For these international experiments, at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, the Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina, the GRAND observatory in China, and in other places, cutting-edge data acquisition and triggering electronics are being developed and maintained. We maintain close collaborations with the TechnoCentre at the Faculty of Science of Radboud University and the technical departments at the National Institute for Subatomic Physics (Nikhef) in Amsterdam.

We offer

  • Employment: 1.0 FTE.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of € 3,746 and a maximum of € 5,127 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience (salary scale 11).
  • In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • Duration of the contract: 1 year with the prospect of a permanent contract (after positive evaluation).
  • The intended start date is 1 October 2021.
