The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 49 000 students and 6 400 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

Our primary research focus at department of molecular and clinical medicine is on metabolism, diabetes, gastroenterology, obesity and cardiovascular disease. We support and promote research and teaching in translational medicine to improve health and to benefit society. The overall goal is to create an excellent translational research environment of a very high international standard.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional gastrointestinal disorder, which is present in 10-15% of the population in Western countries. Psychological factors have a central role for IBS symptoms, and many patients suffer from other bodily symptoms, which influence the disease burden. The mechanisms explaining behind this overlap are not fully understood, and the relative importance of peripheral versus central pathophysiologic abnormalities is not known. The Neurogastroenterology research group at the department of molecular and clinical medicine has a long-standing experience in performing successful translational research focusing on the complex pathophysiology and symptom patterns in IBS.

Job assignments

The person employed should be responsible for planning, recruitment, inclusion of patients, administrative duties and statistical analyses in prospective studies in IBS, focusing on pathophysiology, symptoms, work productivity, nutrition and co-morbid conditions.

Qualifications

For this position, we target those who have a doctoral degree in a relevant area, not older than 3 years from the application deadline.
