Position Summary |
The University of North Carolina School of Medicine is seeking a clinical faculty member to practice in our affiliate hospital, UNC Southeastern located in Lumberton, NC. This position provides neonatal care in a nine-bed neonatal ICU with primarily Level II beds with approximately 1,200 total deliveries annually. The neonatologist in collaboration with a neonatal nurse practitioner, also provides care for all normal newborns in the Mother-Baby Unit (MBU).
Essential Job Specifications: * Attend high risk deliveries * Provide normal newborn care to all infants in Mother Baby Unit * Perform History & Physicals and Discharge Summaries (route to primary care physician) * Secure accurate discharge and follow-up for the patient and family * Provide patient/family counseling * Develop, implement and update the patient’s plan of care * Document delivery of care and patient’s response to care in the medical record (Epic) in a daily progress note * Provide care to all infants in the Level II NICU * Perform procedures as needed per the practice of neonatology (intubation, thoracentesis, venipuncture, umbilical vessel catheterization, LPs) For the appropriate candidate, there is an opportunity to be the Medical Director of Neonatology at UNC Southeastern. Additionally, for candidates interested in continuing to work in a Level III NICU, there is an option to spend 2-3 days per month at the 45 bed NICU located at the Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, NC. UNC Southeastern has a dedicated group of obstetricians and midwives that are supported by a maternal-fetal medicine specialist. There is radiology support, echocardiography, pharmacy including hyperalimentation and respiratory therapy. Construction of a new women’s pavilion is in the planning stages. With a current population of over 20,000, Lumberton, is conveniently located along I-95 in southeastern North Carolina, exactly halfway between New York and Florida. Nestled along the banks of the Lumber River, which is listed as a National Wild and Scenic River and voted one of North Carolina’s Top Ten Natural Wonders, hiking, biking, kayaking and fishing are plentiful. A Riverwalk runs along the river near historic downtown, where history, arts, restaurants, a local winery and more can be enjoyed. Myrtle Beach and Wilmington are both a quick 90-minute drive away. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
MD or DO degree. The successful candidate will be board certified/eligible in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.

Pediatrics residency in accredited program. Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
