We are seeking a Researcher to join the Department of Archaeology and Museology with a focus on archaeometallurgy. The successful candidate will work within the ERC Synergy project CoCo (Connected Communities in Early Medieval Europe) and participate in interdisciplinary research, publication, and operational tasks.
Perform research and development tasks under senior guidance
Conduct archaeometallurgical analyses
Operate SEM-EDS microscopy and analyze chemical composition of iron artifacts, slags, and ores
Conduct GIS spatial analysis, statistical and network analysis of iron production
Contribute to publication and presentation of research results
Assist with operational and administrative activities as instructed by the department
Education & Experience
Master’s degree in Archaeology (required), or Materials Engineering/Chemistry with focus on archaeological artifacts
Ongoing or planned PhD studies (e.g., at Masaryk University)
Professional focus on archaeometallurgy or archaeometry (experience in the field not required)
Language Skills
English (B2 minimum; C1/C2 preferred)
Czech or Slovak (written and spoken) advantageous
Job-related Competencies
Ability to conduct independent research and collaborate in research teams
Strong communication and presentation skills
Experience with SEM-EDS microscopy, GIS (ArcGIS), databases, statistical methods (PCA, cluster/discriminant analysis)
Basic knowledge of early medieval archaeology in Central Europe
Diligence, reliability, team spirit, openness to change, self-reflection
