Description

The Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA currently has an opening for an academic researcher to join the research lab of Nanthia Suthana, Ph.D., in the Laboratory of Neuromodulation and Neuroimaging (at the junior, mid-level, or senior rank). We are looking for an enthusiastic, resourceful, and dedicated investigator to lead a funded project designed to understand the neural mechanisms underlying memory formation in the real-world and to develop approaches for modulating memory for real-world autobiographical experiences. The researcher will take a leadership role in the design of metrics, data analysis, and interpretation of findings from this novel study. This will also include overseeing data collection and preparation and completion of data-based reports for presentations and publications. The researcher will directly advise and train undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral trainees in experimental design, data validation, and data analysis. Thus, the applicant should have some demonstrated experience supervising students. The researcher will report directly to the laboratory director.

The position requires a Ph.D. in a neuroscience-related field and at least three years of working experience in research on neuromodulation or neuroimaging. Experience in methodological approaches to studying the neurophysiology of the human brain and body (functional MRI, intracranial EEG, psychophysiology) research is required. Experience developing virtual and augmented reality research paradigms is also preferred. Evidence of manuscript writing and data analysis is also required, with multiple first-author publications, along with experience working with a team of researchers from different backgrounds (engineering, animal neuroscience, neurologists, and neurosurgeons).

Salary and corresponding rank and step is dependent on the candidate’s professional experience, research record, and accomplishments, and a brief statement about contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Interested applicants must submit a i) cover letter outlining academic interests, ii) curriculum vitae with bibliography, and iii) contact information for three potential references.
