At the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, we conduct research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute comprises five different departments: Clinical Neuroscience, Health and Rehabilitation, Pharmacology, Physiology and Psychiatry and Neurochemistry.

The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, invites applications for a researcher position at the Department of Physiology. 

The advertised position is aimed at in vivo studies of diabetes/obesity and ex vivo/in vitro studies of adipocytes and macrophages at the unit of metabolic physiology.

Job assignments

Techniques within the project encompass metabolic phenotyping of different mouse models, adipocyte cell culturing, isolation and ex vivo analysis of primary adipocytes, fibroblasts and macrophages from adipose tissue, flow cytometry/FACS, histological techniques (embedding, sectioning and staining of tissue, immunohistochemistry/fluorescence and analysis), molecular biology techniques such as quantitative real-time PCR.


A PhD degree in relevant area is necessary for the position, preferentially in the area of physiology/metabolism and immunology. Experience from research within the area of obesity and type 2 diabetes is very meritorious. The applicant is expected to have solid practical experience of adipose tissue analysis and also experience of the other above-mentioned techniques. The applicant should be able to show documented experience for the assignment. We are looking for a motivated individual with interest and experience in research in the metabolic physiology area. We are also looking for a person with good organizational skills and who can work independently. It is of importance that the applicant is meticulous, has good collaboration skills and is flexible. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. 


The employment is limited (temporary) for 24 months, 100% of full-time and is placed at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology. Starting date; as soon as possible or as agreed.
