Position description

The Department of Developmental and Cell Biology in the School of Biological Sciences is accepting applications in the areas of pancreatic cancer and its connections to diabetes. The person in this position will perform experiments with pancreatic samples and transgenic mouse models. The overarching hypothesis is that inflammatory, immune and stress pathway responses contribute alterations in the glycobiology of the pancreatic tumors leading to activation of aberrant signaling cascades that promote cancer metastasis. We hypothesize that alterations in metabolic pathways in the tumor microenvironment also induce a state of insulin resistance leading to loss of glycemic control. Renewal of the appointment will be contingent on performance and the availability of adequate funding.

The University of California, Irvine is ranked among the nation’s best research institutes with over $90,000,000 in current funding. Enrichment opportunities abound through the outstanding programs and cores.

Requirements include M.D., Ph.D., or M.D.-Ph.D. in cancer and cell biology, an interest in pancreatic cancer research, and an appreciation of clinical systemic consequences of this malignancy that will lead to novel biomarker discoveries to early diagnosis. Experience with signaling pathways and working with transgenic mice preferred.

Candidate performs research, provides university and/or public service, demonstrates professional competency and activity of high quality and significance.

Qualified candidates should submit their curriculum vitae, a cover letter, and the names and contact information of three references to the following on-line recruitment URL:
