Position Description

The Yale School of Medicine's Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging invites applications from academically accomplished early-career Interventional Radiologists for a non-tenure track instructor-level faculty appointment.

A strong interest in clinical care, education, and academic development is required. Candidates should demonstrate a desire to build a research portfolio, particularly in the area of arterial and venous disease, though extensive prior funding is not required.

Board certification is not required for this position.

About Yale Interventional Radiology (YIR)

Yale Interventional Radiology (YIR) is a nationally leading academic section which provides the entire spectrum of IR procedures with high-volume oncologic, vascular, transplant, trauma, and pediatric services.

Due to increasing service successes, the section is expanding.

The section currently includes:

20 faculty.
8 advanced practice providers.
20 integrated and independent IR residents.
Access to a wide range of imaging modalities.

The practice includes:

A large tertiary multidisciplinary hospital (~1,500 beds) with an associated NCI-designated cancer center.
Two affiliated peripheral inpatient hospitals (>500 beds).
A VA hospital.
Two outpatient IR facilities.
Numerous IR clinics.

Applicants should be enthusiastic about joining a mutually supportive group of nationally recognized faculty who excel at practicing state-of-the-art Interventional Radiology within an academic environment.

Within the Yale School of Medicine, the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging is a research, teaching, and clinical center of excellence devoted to providing optimal patient care through excellence in imaging and image-guided therapy.

The Department has a long history as a pioneer in the field of Radiology and Imaging Sciences and, more than 100 years ago, was the first site in the United States to generate X-rays.

As the historical cradle of American radiology, the Department is currently listed nationally as one of the top five research institutions funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Qualifications

In addition to providing excellent clinical care, the candidate will be expected to:

Participate in education.
Develop and expand an academic profile in clinical or translational research.

Particular opportunities exist in:

Arterial and venous interventions.
Vascular reconstruction.
Thrombosis.
Related imaging sciences.

The candidate is expected to:

Have strong foundational training in image-guided procedures.
Demonstrate excellent clinical acumen.
Show motivation to develop expertise in advanced vascular interventions.

Depending on individual background and academic goals, protected non-clinical time may be provided to support scholarly development and participation in national-level CME activities.

Prior exposure to vascular interventions—including venous and arterial recanalization, thrombectomy, and dialysis access—will be viewed favorably, as will experience or interest in logistics and management of procedures in outpatient or OBL environments.

While the position is primarily clinical, interest in diagnostic cardiovascular imaging is encouraged but not required.

The candidate will be expected to achieve board certification within two years of employment, upon which transition toward tenure-track positions is encouraged.
