We are looking for

An enthusiastic researcher that combines a background in ecotoxicology with skills to successfully acquire and manage projects, and ensure their scientific quality. The projects you feel comfortable to be involved with can include both field and laboratory experiments, some of which may require to be carried out under GLP, and desktop studies. Your expertise in the field of environmental risk assessment is mainly about terrestrial organisms, especially non-target arthropods and soil fauna, but also additional terrestrial topics like food web interactions are within the scope of your interest. On top of this, you have a natural ability to build trusted relationships with the customers we work for.

You will collaborate with researchers within and outside our organization, who have varying areas of expertise, including analytical chemistry, ecology, ecotoxicology, statistics and modelling.

The domain of the Environmental Risk Assessment team is the provision of science based answers and solutions for the integrative assessment and management of a bio-diverse agricultural environment. We are a world leading center of expertise for the assessment of environmental risks in the area of pesticides and other organic chemicals compounds. We take pride in our highly qualified staff (28 employees) and advanced laboratories, including outstanding outdoor test facilities. For our clients (government agencies, NGOs, and industries) we conduct experimental (GLP-certified) research and develop models, to analyze and predict the behavior of organic contaminants in water, soil and air, and to determine their effects on ecosystems and focal organisms. Furthermore, we offer consultancy and training on sustainable pesticide management in upcoming economies.

We ask

You are someone who has:

  • a PhD degree in environmental sciences, chemistry, biology or a related science;
  • affinity with, and an active network in the field of terrestrial ecotoxicology;
  • a proven track record of successful project acquisitions;
  • the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously;
  • the capacity to work under Good Laboratory Practice (GLP);
  • good interpersonal skills in taking care of a variety of customers & you are a pleasant teammate;
  • excellent skills in speaking, writing and reporting in English;
  • sufficient proficiency in Dutch speaking, writing and reporting to immediately being able to adapt to a Dutch speaking customer environment like the Ministry of Agriculture;
  • you are an enthusiastic person that doesn’t need much to be up and running in this role.

We offer

We offer a meaningful and international work environment characterized by hardworking professionals who perform in multidisciplinary teams. Depending on your expertise and experience a salary from a minimum of € 3336 to a maximum of € 5892 for a full working week of 36 hours in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement Wageningen Research (scale 11 or 12). The appointment is for 32 or 36 hours per week, for a period of 12 months with a possibility of an extension.
