Employment: 0.8 – 1.0 FTE
Gross monthly salary: €5,705 – €7,297
Required background: PhD
Organizational unit: Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging (DCCN)
Application deadline: 01 March 2026
Location: Radboud University, Nijmegen, Netherlands
Radboud University is seeking a specialist in MR spectroscopy with a strong methodological background and interest in cognitive neuroimaging to work on the world's first whole-body 14 Tesla MRI system. As part of the DYNAMIC team, you will play a leading role in the development and implementation of spectroscopy techniques in the brain for both patients and healthy volunteers.
The exquisite sensitivity of the 14T MRI system will allow spectroscopic measurements with unprecedented spatial and temporal resolution. Access to spatial distributions of neurotransmitter signals will open new windows on human brain function. Research areas may include the development of metabolic imaging techniques and measuring dynamic changes in metabolite concentrations.
You will be encouraged to acquire independent funding and collaborate with teams in the DYNAMIC initiative. In addition to the 14T system, you will have access to other imaging facilities at the Donders Institute, including 3T systems in Nijmegen and a 7T system at the Erwin L. Hahn Institute in Essen, Germany.
PhD, preferably with a specialization in MR spectroscopy and a background in the physical sciences
Relevant previous experience, preferably with 7 Tesla or higher
Strong publication record
Good communication and presentation skills
Note: It is not necessary to tick all boxes; overall quality, motivation, and potential are the primary criteria. Mentoring and coaching will be provided as needed.
Temporary employment contract of 1.5 years
Salary according to scale 12 (based on education and experience; 38-hour workweek)
8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus
Dual Career Coaching to assist partners in finding employment in the Netherlands
Extra days off: 30–41 days of annual leave instead of statutory 20, depending on full-time status
Flexible working hours, leave arrangements, hybrid work options, and reimbursement for sports membership
34% discount on sports and cultural activities
Robust pension plan and professional development opportunities
