The University of Chicago invites applications for a Senior Instructional Professor (open rank) position with roles and responsibilities at the executive academic administrative level and at the operations level in the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering’ undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. programs. The selected candidate’s rank will be determined based on qualifications and years of experience in a similar role. The appointment will be for a term of up to five years, renewable. This is a career-track position with competitive salary and benefits.

The University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering is initiating an ambitious education plan across all its undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. programs.  The person holding this position collaborates with our Director of Undergraduate Studies and will be directly engaged with students in our undergraduate major and minor degree programs, including teaching, curriculum development, student advising, cohort building, and the development of extracurricular clubs and activities.  The person holding this position will also plan a significant role in executing and overseeing operations related to our Ph.D. program in close coordination  with our faculty leadership which directs the Ph.D. program, including direct engagement with graduate students in the context of academic administrative issues, development of teaching resources, including assignment, training, and management of graduate student teaching assistants, and serving as a resource to promote excellence in teaching for faculty, especially junior faculty.

In addition, in consultation with faculty leadership in particular the Vice Dean of Education and Outreach, the person hired will be responsible for leading the design, development, implementation, and academic administration of the Master of Science in Molecular Engineering (MSME) program and curriculum, and growing enrollment.  The MSME initiative is a collaboration amongst the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering and potentially and other units on campus, and Argonne National Laboratory.

To fulfill these roles and responsibilities, the person hired will supervise other teaching personnel and administrative staff and must be adept at working with many different and different types of stakeholders in our academic programs.

We particularly seek individuals who can help us fulfill our broad and ambitious educational objectives in engineering education and academic program administration.  Appointments will be made in the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, or jointly with another department in the University.

A Ph.D. in Engineering or a related field, or ten years’ experience teaching in a selective college or university as an instructor of record; experience in implementation and management of academic programs; and experience in managing personnel and budgets are required.
