Role Description

Department

As part of a strategic investment in new posts, the Department of Education is seeking to appoint an Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Science Education. The successful candidate will join the University of York Science Education Group (UYSEG), one of the Department’s four research centres, and will contribute to teaching. 

Role

The role is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to make a substantial contribution to the research and curriculum innovation activities of the work of the UYSEG. Your role will be to engage actively in research at a high level, to demonstrate intellectual leadership and to lead on, or contribute to, the production of high impact research publications and research outcomes.

You will be expected to design, develop and deliver teaching on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, to carry out supervision and to undertake a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities.   

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • PhD in science education or a related field
  • Expertise in one or more areas of research in science education that will complement and enhance the Department’s research strategy and goals
  • Knowledge of the education systems in one or more contexts (in the UK and elsewhere) including teaching and learning approaches in school science
  • A proven track record in research with high quality journal publications and conference presentations and an ability to provide academic leadership in research area
  • A demonstrated ability to win external research grant funding, preferably as the lead applicant
  • Proven ability to design teaching material and an extensive track record of teaching and learning in HE at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Proven ability to take a leading role in the supervision of research students
