About the department

At the Department of Applied Information Technology, critical and interdisciplinary research is conducted in an international environment of the highest quality with great relevance to the surrounding society. Our researchers are in the midst of the debate to help explain and problematize IT- and society-related challenges linked to the digitalization of society.

We develop the individual's knowledge and ability to analyze, understand and handle various aspects of IT as well as the interaction between human and technology in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, digital innovation, e-Health, Internet of Things, mobile communication, robots, social media and IT in schools and teaching.
We provide education at Bachelor's and Master's level anchored in research and the development of society.

The department is located at the knowledge-intensive Lindholmen, and has a well-developed collaboration with both business and public sector as well as the civil society.

About the Division of Informatics

The Division of Informatics consists of approximately thirty researchers who work specifically on issues related to digital innovation, open innovation, digital platforms and digitalization of the public sector.

The researchers publish regularly in top international journals.

All teaching at the division's program, Master in Digital Leadership and the Bachelor's programme System Science reflect the strong research environment.

In both research and education, the division has a long tradition of working closely with industry and the public sector. The division hosts the Swedish Center for Digital Innovation, SCDI, and also offers contract teaching.

Subject area description 

Informatics/Information Systems in the intersection of digital work, digital organizing and digital strategy. 

Job assignments 

The job assignment consists of being part of the stellar Division of Informatics, working in close collaboration with colleagues in research, education and outreach. We expect you to demonstrate a commitment to high quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students. You will teach at the Digital Leadership master’s program, as well as at the Information Systems program at undergraduate level. We are looking for a candidate who can be part in developing and delivering courses related to the subject area description above. We particularly expect teaching approaches that appreciate the complexity of sustainability and that are tied to the UN sustainability goals. 

In terms of research, the work will consist of conducting research in direct conjunction with the subject area description above. We ideally see that you can engage in developing and designing new projects in order to attract research funding. In terms of outreach, you will work in close collaboration to existing and new industry partners through both executive education and applied research settings. The Department seeks employees with clear potential for a continued academic career and with interest in various leadership roles in an academic environment.  

Administrative tasks related to educational activities are also included.


The eligibility for employment as a teacher is stated in chapter 4, sections 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's employment procedure. Qualifying to be employed is the one who has demonstrated educational skill, has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence or any other skill that is important in the view of the content of the employment and the duties that are to be included.


In the appointment, special emphasis will be placed on the degree of scientific- and teaching aptitude, which will be assessed with equal importance.

Scientific proficiency must be documented through national and international scientific publication in the field of information systems and the subject area description above. We see top-tier publishing within information systems as a necessary pre-requisite to meet the requirements for the research capabilities, along with a successful work on obtaining external funds and leading research projects. Assessment of scientific proficiency includes the ability to independently plan, initiate and conduct research, the ability to collaborate in development and research as well as contribute to a research environment and the international scientific community.

When assessing pedagogical skills, special emphasis is placed on work with teaching in information systems and the subject area description above at masters- and undergraduate level. Experience in teaching in the field of digital strategy and digital platforms is a merit. Assessment of pedagogical skills will include the candidates experience of planning, implementation, management, evaluation, supervision and examination, as well as course development and development of educational materials and similar educational activities. Both pedagogical and educational skills and experience must be well documented so that quality also can be assessed.

Formal training in higher education teaching or equivalent is a merit. Applicants who lack formal training in higher education teaching or equivalent, are expected to undergo such, or to gain equivalent knowledge, within one year from the date of employment.

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required. Written and oral communication skills in Swedish is meritorious.

Documented ability and skill in collaboration, management and administration of education, research, operations and staff along with the ability to organize and lead projects and research teams, experience of management assignments and assignments within academia, national as well as international will be deemed of merit. Also experience of informing, collaborating with the surrounding society and to act to utilize the university’s research results is deemed of merit.

The university will through this recruitment make a holistic assessment of aptitude and skills and select the applicant which is deemed to have the best pre-requisites to conduct and develop current tasks of the position, interact and cooperate externally and internally, as well as contributing to a positive development of the division.


The position is a permanent employment at full-time and placed at the Department of Applied Information Technology. 
Probationary employment is applied for all permanent employments. 
The start date is on 1st of September 2021.
