Welcome to the Institute of Medicine. We conduct interdisciplinary research and education that spans from molecule to society, in close collaboration with healthcare providers in Region Västra Götaland and especially Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Research within the institute covers several of the major common diseases, including osteoporosis, diabetes, and obesity, but also blood diseases, hormonal diseases, rheumatology, allergology, diseases of the liver, stomach and intestines, and nutritional health. Much of our teaching takes place in the medical and dietitian programs and in public and global health.
We are recruiting a senior lecturer who can take responsibility for parts of the teaching in the medical program.
Internal medicine
This position as a senior lecturer in internal medicine will be in one of the following specialist areas as defined by the National Board of Health and Welfare: the internal medicine subspecialties endocrinology and diabetology, internal medicine, respiratory medicine, medical gastroenterology and hepatology or renal medicine; allergology; emergency medicine.
Upon appointment, the employment may be specified in terms of a subject area that corresponds with the candidate's specialist competence.
Job assignments include teaching in internal medicine and course management in the medical program at Sahlgrenska Academy, as well as work-based teaching in collaboration with healthcare providers within Region Västra Götaland. Supervision and other teaching can also be included.
Duties also include conducting research within a separate research program and in collaboration with others in relevant subjects. The candidate is expected to actively seek external funding as a primary investigator and in collaboration with other research groups to establish and support their own research group.
Clinical duties will be carried out within the framework of a combined employment as consultant/senior consultant in agreement with the hospital and may vary, but are mainly based on clinical activities within Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
This position also includes certain administrative tasks related to teaching, research and the clinic.
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg's own employment agreement.
A PhD in medical science or a relevant subject is required, as well as demonstrated pedagogical competence and a medical degree.
Specialist competence is required in at least one of the following specialist areas (or an area considered equivalent by the employer): the internal medicine subspecialties endocrinology and diabetology, internal medicine, respiratory medicine, medical gastroenterology and hepatology or renal medicine; allergology; emergency medicine.
The ability to teach in Swedish or Scandinavian and English is required.
According to Higher Education Act, Chapter 3, Section 8, a combined position may only be held by someone eligible for both appointments.
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg's own employment agreement.
The primary assessment criteria are scientific and pedagogical competence, which are weighted equally, followed by clinical competence.
When assessing scientific competence, emphasis will be placed on publications in leading international journals. Greater weight will be given to the quality and impact of the publications rather to than the total number, and to the quality of the applicant's proposed research program and its relevance to the subject area. The ability to obtain external research grants in national and international competition is an advantage.
When assessing pedagogical competence, emphasis will be placed on documented pedagogical education, experience of and good ability in bedside teaching and diagnostics in medical education, and good abilities in course management and supervision. Experience of pedagogical development work will be of particular merit.
When assessing clinical competence, emphasis will be placed on clinical experience and competence in one of the requested specialist areas. Experience of scientific and clinical leadership in national and international networks is an advantage.
Administrative experience and the ability to work as a member of a team and collaboratively are also advantageous.
Applicants who do not have advanced education in pedagogy from the University of Gothenburg must complete this education (or validate the equivalent education received from another higher education institution) within one year of starting employment.
The employment is a full time (100%) permanent post and located at The Institute of Medicine. Starting date as agreed.
