The University of Gothenburg

The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. With 58,000 students and 6,800 employees, the university is a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The DDLS Fellows Program

Data-driven life science (DDLS) uses data, computational methods, and artificial intelligence to study biological systems and processes at all levels, from molecular structures and cellular processes to human health and global ecosystems.

The SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS), coordinated by SciLifeLab, aims to recruit and train the next generation of data-driven life scientists and to establish globally leading computational and data science capabilities in Sweden. The program is funded with 3.3 billion SEK (approximately 350 MUSD) over 12 years by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg (KAW) Foundation.

The DDLS program:

  • funds 50 high-profile Fellows

  • supports over 210 postdoctoral positions

  • includes a research school of 260 PhD students, including industry PhDs and postdocs

Fellows are recruited to 11 participating universities/organizations and brought together within the DDLS program, which spans four strategic areas:

  • Cell and molecular biology

  • Evolution and biodiversity

  • Precision medicine and diagnostics

  • Epidemiology and biology of infection

More information: www.scilifelab.se/data-driven

During 2022–2024, 39 Fellows were recruited. The program now seeks to recruit 11 additional Fellows. Each DDLS Fellow receives a 17 MSEK (approximately 1.6 MUSD) recruitment package for five years, covering salary and research resources such as PhD students and postdoctoral positions.

The Fellowships are tenure-track positions. Host organizations assume responsibility for long-term faculty appointments following tenure evaluation.

The future of life science is data-driven. Will you be leading the change with us?

  • molecular data (e.g. omics)

  • imaging

  • electronic healthcare records

  • longitudinal patient and population registries

  • biobanks

Applicants are expected to have a strong computational focus, developing and applying novel methods based on:

  • machine learning

  • artificial intelligence

  • advanced computational techniques

Job Assignments

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • establish an independent and competitive research programme

  • actively apply for external research funding

  • collaborate with:

    • Sahlgrenska Academy
