Position

Permanent position as Senior Lecturer in Virology based at the Department of Translational Medicine or Department of Laboratory Medicine. The departmental affiliation will be decided at the time of appointment. There is an opportunity to combine the position with clinical work, which will also be decided at the time of appointment.


Duties

The position aims to strengthen and bridge strategically important research in medical experimental virology at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct research at the Lund University Virus Centre (LUVC), a newly established research centre with modern laboratories and an integrated biosafety level 3 laboratory. The LUVC promotes cooperation between researchers, healthcare, industry, and society to increase knowledge of viral diseases and develop new prophylactic, therapeutic, and diagnostic tools.

Key duties include:

  • Conduct and develop nationally and internationally competitive research in experimental virology.

  • Teaching and development of first, second, and third-cycle courses, including postdoc courses.

  • Leadership, administration, and participation in internal/external elected positions.

  • External engagement, including potential collaboration with Region Skåne, Clinical Microbiology, in virological diagnostics (if applicable).


Qualification Requirements

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent research competence in virology or related field.

  • Demonstrated research expertise and teaching ability in higher education.

  • Completion of at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education, or equivalent experience, or completion within two years of starting the position.

  • For combined clinical roles, Swedish language skills at level C1 or higher (Council of Europe’s Framework).


Assessment Criteria

Research Expertise:

  • Independent research efforts in experimental virology at a high international level.

  • Publications in well-established international journals.

  • Ability to plan and lead national/international research collaborations.

  • Relevant grants obtained as principal applicant.

  • Supervisory experience of doctoral students through to public defense.

  • Experience in experimentally-oriented research on viruses with epidemic/pandemic potential.

Teaching Expertise:

  • Ability and experience in planning and conducting teaching and supervision at all cycles, including postdocs.

  • Experience in assessment and development of education, including innovative contributions.

External Engagement:

  • Experience in creating collaborations across disciplines and outside academia.

  • Ability to communicate research results and contribute to societal utilisation.

Leadership Ability:

  • Administrative expertise and ability to organise, develop, and lead in research, education, and external engagement.

  • Clinical experience and expertise if the position is combined with clinical work.

General Qualification:

  • Suitability to satisfactorily carry out duties of the appointment.

  • Compliance with Lund University Appointment Rules and Faculty of Medicine requirements.
