Senior Lecturers in Psychology (Teaching & Research)

Department: School of Biological & Chemical Sciences
Salary: £55,840 - £62,415 per annum (Grade 7)
Reference: QMUL24895
Location: Mile End
Date posted: 26-Apr-2021
Closing date: 26-May-2021

Overview:

We are seeking to appoint two ambitious research-driven scientists at Senior Lecturer level with a strong publication record as well as significant potential for funding. The successful candidates will be involved in teaching on our undergraduate or Masters programmes (teaching loads are as what would be expected in a research-led institution and reduced in the first two years following appointment).

We are particularly interested in applicants who conduct research in the areas of learning, memory and aging, and have facilities to support both human testing and animal research (including zebrafish, chicks, bees and rodents). Although our focus is on the areas above, we will consider outstanding applicants outside these areas who build on the research strengths of the department. You should have a PhD in Psychology and/or relevant professional qualification and/or equivalent professional experience.

Within Queen Mary University of London, the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences is a large and expanding academic unit, which provides a supportive and friendly environment and encourages interdisciplinary research. The Department of Biological and Experimental Psychology was founded in 2008 and currently comprises 19 permanent academics. We emphasise a modern interdisciplinary approach, at the interface between behavioural and biological aspects of psychology.

At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable. Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum, a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.

The posts are based at the Mile End Campus in London. Both posts are full time, permanent appointments, with an expected start date of August 2021. The salary will be in Grade 7, in the range of £55,840 - £62,415 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.

Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.  We particularly welcome applications from people who identify as Black, Asian or Other Minority Ethnic groups and women as these groups are underrepresented at this level at Queen Mary.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr. Isabelle Mareschal, via i.mareschal@qmul.ac.uk
