Tenure Track Assistant Professorships in Public Administration and Public Policy

We invite applications for one or more positions as Tenure Track Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen. The position(s) are available from 1 March 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job Description  
General duties attached to the position as Assistant Professor are:  
• Research within the field of public administration and public policy 
• Teaching, supervision and examination of undergraduate and post-graduate students 
• Administrative tasks  
• Knowledge sharing with the rest of the society 
Emphasis will be put on the applicant’s ability to contribute to the intellectual life of the Department through conducting and publishing outstanding quality research, engaging in high quality teaching, disseminate knowledge and make a knowledge-based societal impact. An assistant professor is expected to develop competences and experience within research, teaching and dissemination. In time, the assistant professor should develop competences to attract funding within his or her specialist area. 
Essential Qualifications
To be qualified for the position the applicant must have a PhD in Political Science or equivalent academic qualifications as well as: 
• An aspiration to increase our understanding of the world and its problems based on a proven record of outstanding research, as evidenced primarily by a well-received PhD dissertation and an emerging international reputation based on a publication profile that complements the existing research strengths of the Department 
• A commitment to contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience based on a track record of excellence in teaching in one or more of the main areas covered by the Department. The Department prefers candidates, who can cover more than one of the main courses taught at BSc level. 
• An engagement in knowledge exchange and policy-impact in Denmark as well as in an international context. We encourage proactive engagement with government, business and community partners to enhance the impact of research and education and improve the employability of our students. 
• Robust interpersonal skills which enables the candidate to be a constructive and empathic colleague in a diverse and vibrant working environment. 
We will expect candidates to present a clear, well-developed and viable strategy for future outstanding research that will result in further world-leading publications, external research funding as well as a commitment to innovate teaching. 
The Department 
The Department is a top-ranked European political science departments which offers a vibrant and collegial working environment for ambitious scholars. The pluralism of Political Science in Copenhagen is evidenced in the various epistemological and methodological approaches as well as a wide-range of sub-fields adopted by faculty which is reflected in a wide-range of core subjects in the MSc programme. The Department is placed on an attractive, historic campus in central Copenhagen – a city which is continuously voted as one of the most liveable European capitals. Its location in a capital means that the Department has a strong tradition for engagement in policy development and in public debate –in Denmark as well as on the European policy-scene. The Department has 1,800 students in its BSc and MSc programmes in Political Science, 200 in the BSc and MSc programmes in Social Studies and 100 in the MSc programme in Security Risk Management. Furthermore, the department welcomes annually approximately 200 exchange and guest students from abroad. The Department is also actively participating in developing a new MSc programme in social data science. The Department consists of 76 faculty and 41 PhD students, and there are 20 administrative staff.

Conditions of Employment  
An assistant professorship is a further-education post. Supervision as well as pedagogical training is provided. The position(s) will be covered by the tenure track programme at the University of Copenhagen. The programme offers tenure-track candidates a contract of six years that can result in a tenured associate professorship. Terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The annual salary as Assistant Professor is based on seniority and is within the range of DKK 408,948 – 430,560. In addition to the salary paid directly, the University will also pay a monthly contribution to the pension fund corresponding to 17.1 % of the salary. • A maximum of 6 publications. 
• A complete and numbered list of publications. The publications enclosed in the application – that the applicant would like the assessment committee to consider should be marked with an asterisk (*). 
• Documentation of teaching experience and evaluation, supervisory activities and pedagogical training (if any).  
• Documentation of the ability to disseminate information to and share knowledge with society (if available). 
If publications marked by an asterisk (*) are the result of a joint effort, the extent and the nature of the applicant’s contribution to each individual work must be clarified in the application, and if possible, a declaration from the co-authors or the head of the institution or office at which the work was completed should be enclosed as well.  
Application Procedure 
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, applicants are selected for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment by an expert assessment committee. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
