Job Opening for Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor
Institute of Economic Research, Kyoto University

The Institute of Economic Research, Kyoto University, is searching for a tenure
track assistant/associate professor. The position is for a six-year term and is
promotable to a tenured position subject to mid-term evaluations conducted before the
completion of the third year and final evaluations conducted before completion of the
fifth year. With positive evaluations, a promotion may be made at the beginning of the
sixth year, and occasionally, a tenure track faculty member with an outstanding research
record may be promoted before the fifth year. (For more details, see the Institute of

The standards for selection for this position include: (1) strong research
achievements at an international standard, (2) capability to engage in research activities
relevant to our permanent research sections, and (3) readiness to engage in joint
research activities.

an applicant is asked to choose at least one section.

On current faculty members:

An applicant must hold a Ph.D. (or be expected to acquire a Ph.D. by the
beginning of employment) and should be currently engaged in research related to at
least one research field covered by our Institute.
An applicant will be required to sign a letter of consent promising to comply
with the Kyoto University Code on Terms of Employment for Faculty Members
before any final offer is made.

【Evaluation Process】
All applicants will be screened in the light of the standards described above.
Those who pass screening will be invited to visit our Institute for a research
presentation and interviews by our faculty members.

【Expected Start of Employment】
April 1, 2020, or later.

【Probation Period】
6 months.

【Employment Status】
Discretionary labor system 5 days a week.

【Salary and Benefits】
Determined in accordance with the existing employment regulations of Kyoto

Eligible for MEXT* mutual aid association membership, employment
